Guess I should have waited a year for the monopoly guy costume. Of course, now he loves it…’hat’, ‘hat mommy’. He is a mess. A mess that I can’t get enough of.
[ part one ] This past Sunday we threw my older sister a vintage school themed baby shower…she’s a teacher. It was so much fun to plan. I designed her invitations to look like a vintage flashcard. It has been really cool being pregnant at the same time with her, even though this is her first baby, my second. And she is having a GIRL! Hence the cake…which is a traditional cake that my family makes for anyone expecting. I always decorate it so it has a modern twist. Look for part two, my little sister and I planned a fun DIY for the guests.

I’m totally into the dipped furniture lately. The La Clinica Collection is hand crafted furniture based on natural materials and low-tech production process by Ciszak Dalma. This little crib is incredible and I can’t get enough of the adorable wooden swing either! I would love to incorporate a piece into the baby’s nursery.
These kite valentines have got to be the sweetest. Eva of Misako Mimoko has handmade these one-of-a-kind greetings with a vintage fabrics and felt. Hand-painted faces and ‘Happy Valentine’ is embroidered on the back. Even though they may not be suitable for children to play with, they would still make perfect decorations.

I am in awe right now…Maricor + Maricar, talented twin sisters, hand embroidered a family set of Sweater Letters. The letter ‘B’ is available in their shop. The letters above were commissioned by ESPN magazine for their regular ‘Go Play’ section. You must visit their site to see all the incredible tactile work!
This weeks Etsy discovery…Epiphanys Corner, owned by stay at home mom, Krystal from Spokane, WA. I like her hand painted, canvas signs, especially this one above. She also painted one that said ‘No more monkeys jumping on the bed’…ha!
This weeks Etsy discovery…Debivanzyl, owned by designer Debi van Zyl. Her New Recycles are made from once-lived materials and lost buttons. Meet Aiko: beast no. 159, a one-of-a kind toy. I think she is a squid or a jellyfish, either way she is awesome. Aiko’s parents were an aqua blue pull-over and yellow cardigan. Her eyes were handed-down to her from an antique shop.
Visit Debi’s blog and see what she is up to; meet her dog Arrow too!
This weeks Etsy discovery…The Little Tiny, owned by Alison Faulkner Robertson. I’m smitten over all of her handmade leather mobiles, made of hand-dyed 100% pure leather with a variety of colors and textures. The Arrows and Feathers mobile above is one of my favorites. I’m obsessed with triangles! I will definitely have to remember this shop the next time I design another nursery.
Swing by Alison’s blog to she what else she is creating. Her little teeny tiny, Ginger is adorable!
Very happy to see a new online store from the makers of the very excellent Bloesem Kids blog. Bloesem Kids Wear Neon stock hand made neon elastic, silver and swarovski crystal necklaces in a style that is appropriately kiddish and suitable for boys or girls. And I must admit, I do quite fancy the Mama Starfish and Baby set. Check out the shop here, their beautiful blog here and the work of their excellent photographer An Van Daele here.
I don’t usually reblog posts but candepop (a really cute baby/kids blog) was on it, this was my post for this morning. ;)
Finalist, Elka Karl submitted this fabric pup tent in the ReadyMade 100. This would be a fun dig project to make this summer on a warm night…Jaxon would love it! It’s a great place to read books, play games and hide. Find all the step-by-step instructions here.

Wood + triangles = handmade fun for kids. These geometric wooden blocks on the left were hand painted by Serena Mitnik-Miller. They are available at the General Store in San Fran. (note: her site is temporarily unavailable now, but hopefully it will be up soon). Merrilee Liddiard, a talented illustrator made these colorful puzzles on the right for her little ones. All you need is a bit of wood and paint…simple and hours of fun!
Instant forest for your little ones! I just came across Made by Joel, a blog where a dad makes toys and other things using simple materials like, wood scraps, cereal boxes, cardboard and branches. He even has a book, called Made to Play that is coming out in the fall.
I picked up this poster this past weekend at the Cherokee Print League Holiday Sale. It was printed by Firecracker Press for the Saint Louis Science Center. I can’t wait to hang it in Jaxon’s room!
