MEXICO was a trip.
We are back! Just wanted to share a few photos from our vacation to Mexico!

DAY 1: Got to the airport three hours early because we had a few nervous travelers with us. We went with our friends, Ryan & Joan. First beverage exactly at 6am helped lighten the mood. Made me smile when Thomas stopped at every gate to look at the planes…first time flyer. ;) After boarding, he was glued to the window while I watched reruns of the Hills, drinking vodka and ginger ale. Successfully landed. Cleared customs and got on the bus. The guide was teaching us how to speak a few things in Spanish..’Mas cervesas por favor’. We arrived at our resort…huge! Checked in and went straight to the lunch buffet. The beach was gorgeous…so blue. Swam for a bit and then went to the pool. Um the biggest pool ever…swim up bars, water fountains. We had quite a few cocktails. Played a little volleyball with some other vacationers. Back to the beach…this time the waves were much stronger. I lost my sunglasses…so did Joan. For dinner we ate at the French restaurant. Ordering off the menu is pretty hilarious because we had the slightest clue as to what we were getting. After dinner we caught the end of a Micheal Jackson show…not bad, but I was tired.
DAY 2: Booked our excursions. Then got some spots at a cabana and swam at the pool. Loving the Bahama Mamas! We took out a catamaran at the beach. Ryan got sick so we turned back. Boo. Thomas and I went kayaking instead. Got to talk to Jax! He said he was busy playing games. ‘I you Dat’, ‘I you Mommy’. My heart just melted. He sounded so big. Just wanted to squeeze him so tight. After dinner at the Italian restaurant, we went for a walk on the beach and saw a giant sea turtle. But then got kicked out not knowing that the beach closes. And so does the pool. At 8 pm…but that didn’t stop us. The guys went to buy a cigar, but Ryan rushed back to get us. Not sure what caused it, but Thomas’ face swelled up out of nowhere! We think it may have been the acid they were using to clean the cement. Benedryl, a shower, and cold soda cans later, it didn’t go down much.
DAY 3: Thomas’ face was still swollen. He was a trooper, just kept his sunglasses on. Our first excursion was the jungle tour. We drove little boats to the coral reef and then went snorkeling. Tried to take photos but not too many turned out. It was fun but my skin was burning not used to wearing so much sunscreen. We got back to the resort relaxed. Poor Thomas was wiped from the Benedryl…hoping it would go away soon.
DAY 4: We went to XPLOR, we didn’t really do our research very well because it was a theme park. It was fun but the lines were awful. We went zip lining on 14 different lines. The tallest one was the best. 302ft…80sec. I wasn’t a fan of the surprise water slide in the middle. We took these little amphibious cruisers for a drive around the ‘jungle’ and swam in the caves. Didn’t really enjoy dinner at the resort’s Hibachi grill because I was in and out of the bathroom all night! I finally just went back to the room and got some medicine. Then we enjoyed some live music in the courtyard.
DAY 5: We missed our kayak tour. Got to talk to our little man again though…ahh I miss him. Talking like crazy. My mom said Casen went to Homecomer’s (tiny fair in my hometown) with his cousin London. We spent the day relaxing at the pool. Played a few pool games and won a bottle of tequila. Let’s just say got a little tipsy. I didn’t eat lunch, decided to lay out. After the swim up bar closed we went to the beach. Took another swim and I was raft surfing on the waves. Stumbled back to our room, ate a bite of room service and passed out. About 10pm Thomas woke me up saying he had back pain. Jumped up to help. It wasn’t going away. He finally let me call the on-site medic. Got an IV and still didn’t get better.
DAY 6: Called the ambulance and got to the hospital emergency about 2:30. He was admitted for kidney stones at 5am. Really?! Meanwhile I was trying to deal with payment. In Mexico you have to pay for everything upfront and then your insurance will reimburse you. What a mess…$600 ambulance ride?! After several x-rays and ultrasounds it was a kidney stone…3mm. Just a waiting game. Stayed the night in the Cancun Hospital. Grrr. What a vacation!
DAY 7: Still hasn’t passed. Phone dead and out of cash. Sitting in the room watching the Olympics in Spanish…the FAB FIVE, swimming, ping pong and kayaking. After a nap and a side of french fries…he finally passed it and we were released at 6pm. Agh!! This tiny thing caused that much pain. I’m so glad he is better now. Took a taxi back to the resort. Couldn’t wait to take a shower. Our friends were so bored without us. Ate at the the Hibachi restaurant again, so yummy. After dinner we watched fire dancers in the courtyard…pretty incredible. Super bummed it was time to leave, but we were both ready to eat normal food again and see our boys!
Long story short. It was a fun break from our everyday routine, just one too many hiccups. Lessons were learned for sure. But we are home safe…and with a tan!
Hasta luego Mexico.
